Canadian Marconi Plant

Photo: Canadian Marconi headquarters
Canadian Marconi built its headquarters in TMR in 1930. The plant remained Marconi's headquarters until 1994. It occupied the entire city block bounded by Canora, Trenton, Aberdare, and Lockhart. Many of us probably recall seeing the big red and white antenna from MRHS on the other side of the CNR tracks. (I believe that the tower was the transmitting tower for CFCF and/or CFCF-TV, both of which were owned by Marconi.)
Canadian Marconi was the leading Canadian designer and manufacturer of long-distance communications equipment used on ships and aircraft. TMR's Marconi plant was a significant contributor to the WWII war efforts of Canada.
