David P. Chesney

On March 5, 2020, we received an email from David's wife, Heather, notifying friends and family of the sad news of David's passing:
Hi Everybody, We have some very bad news to share with you.
On Wednesday February 19, early in the morning Dave was walking down our driveway to meet a friend who was picking him up for coffee when he fell and hit his head on the pavement. His feet just went out from under him and down he went. It was quite obvious that he had hurt his head badly so he was taken by ambulance to the Guelph General.
He was quickly seen in the emergency department where a CT scan determined that he had a fractured skull, a concussion, and some blood between his brain and his skull. The doctors, nurses, and other various professional people gave him excellent care and day by day he was making improvements. Especially notable was the return of his brain function to the point where on February 28, he and I were able to have an actual conversation. Day by day things seemed to progress well but on Tuesday, March 3, he had a heart attack and he passed away.
The funeral service is going to be Tuesday, March 10 at 1:30 at Trinity United Church in Guelph with reception to follow in Trinity Hall. This is the church we attend so in lieu of flowers, donations to the church’s general fund would be welcome.

Of Guelph, passed away peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at the age of 72.
Beloved husband of Heather. Loved father of Jeff (Rachael). Cherished grandfather of Sarah, Hope and Daniel. Dear brother of John (Kim), Bill (Jane) and Margie (John) and brother-in-law of Peter. Will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews; Erik, Laura, Justin, Eryn (Andrew), Paul (Julie), Ian (Nadia), Matthew (Christie), Mike and Diana.
Special thanks to the Guelph General Hospital ICU, 4East and ICC for their care and compassion.
Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church, 400 Stevenson St. N., Guelph on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 1:30 pm. Reception to follow in the church hall. Memorial contributions to the Trinity United Church General Fund would be appreciated.A tree will be planted in memory of David P. Chesney in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 2:30 pm.
