All my work was in nursing. I worked at the Hospital for Sick Children for 19 1/2 years in various capacities—research—medical and nursing, in and outpatient departments. I then worked in public health in various programs: tuberculosis education and case management; family health (visiting mothers and babies when they came home from hospital); healthy living (cancer & prevention, heart health, nutrition, falls prevention).
Retirement has been very interesting—quite a change. I spend a lot of time going out for lunch & coffee, reading, doing some volunteer work, swimming, cross-country skiing, walking, and generally enjoying not punching a clock and commuting 2 hours a day. I am healthy—only suffering from various sports-related injuries—some old, some new. I have also taken up genealogy and have done a lot of work on my family tree, which has been fun.
My mother died unexpectedly and suddenly in Dec. 2006. Our family has always been close and it was very hard on myself and my 3 siblings.
My favourite moments at TMR were playing on the various house teams and singing in the Glee Club. Some of the teachers were great—some not. I do remember enjoying the assembly we had for Doug Anakin when he went to the Olympics, as well as enjoying seeing my former classmates at graduation—so long ago.
Places I have visited since leaving high school include Bulgaria, Australia, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, many parts of Europe, and many summers in Maine. It was in Ocean Park, Maine, that I ran into Alison Clark Vannah, who owns a cottage near our former family cottage.
I have just returned from visiting with Heather Young Chambers. We had planned to take a picture of the 2 of us, but forgot!! I will see her again this summer and we will do it then. I have been in touch with Tarrel Tingley Armstrong. She will be in Toronto at the end of April and we will be meeting for lunch or coffee. It should be fun after all these years!
