How do you sum up the last 45 years in a few sentences? Perhaps by choosing judiciously to save those who want to read it some time.

After a year of university, I got a job on a freighter as a cabin boy to work my way to Europe. It was Bertram Kidd who told me how to do it. I lived in Switzerland for about a year working in a summer camp and as an English teacher as well as a musician from time to time. I returned to Canada in 1967 to work as a host and supervisor of hosts for the Canadian pavilion.

In early 1968, I was recruited by the CBC's Northern Service in Inuvik, NWT as an announcer and technician where I remained for 2 years followed by a brief stint in Edmonton, before quitting and going to Vancouver as a freelance broadcaster. I worked for the CBC as an announcer and then producer for many years in radio and television in most cities in Canada before eventually returning to Montreal. During this time, I produced public affairs programs and documentaries before switching to variety and music and also spent a few years with Radio Canada International. I have been fortunate to work as a producer with some of the very best artists in the world in Canada, the USA, and Europe.

I continue to undertake new projects that include producing, writing, and consulting, primarily within the cultural industries and teach communications and production at a community college. In addition to music, horses have always been my passion and my wife and I split our time between Montreal and the upper Laurentians where we have a home and keep horses to compete in western events during the summer. I play in an 18 piece big band every two weeks (where I am one of the youngest members—most of them are in their eighties). Life is good.

Stay healthy.

Mark sent the above bio in February 2009.

Mark sent us the photo below in June 2022 with Janis Riven. Mark and Janis attended the Class of 1964 graduation dance together, then both married other people, and a few years ago reconnected and got married.
