We learned from Doug's widow, Maria, that Doug passed away from cancer in December 2017. There was no obituary because "Doug did not believe in that sort of thing."

Here is a bio that Doug sent us in December 2008:

Hello to everyone from our Mount Royal High School 1964 graduating class. It will be good to read how things are going with some of you. Are you retired? Children and grandchildren? Whereabouts has life taken you?

I’m currently living in Sherwood Park, Alberta with my wife Maria.  Our son, Paul, and daughter-in-law live in Sherwood Park near us.  Our 2 ½ year old grandson, Owen—and oh yes, our daughter, Angela, and son-in-law, too—live in Kelowna, B.C.

I’m still teaching, now in a Francophone school in east Edmonton, where I’m responsible for the English grades 10-12 programs and ESL. After moving to Alberta three and a half years ago from B.C., I’ve been very fortunate to have been able again to teach full-time in a school which caters academically to students coming here from all over the world, half of whom are of African origin and many Muslim. I began my teaching career in 1970-72, teaching ESL in a Francophone school in Madagascar with CUSO, and it looks as if at the end of my career I will be doing something similar in Canada. Maria, my wife, retired from teaching when we left B.C. and now helps me with my teaching duties. Our son works for an oil company and our daughter works for Sunrype, a company that produces orange and apple juice.

I curl, jog, play the bagpipes in a pipe band, and am actively involved in a Christian business men’s fellowship. I look forward to getting news from former—not old—acquaintances and friends.
