It is with great sadness and shock that we announce Barry’s sudden passing on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the age of seventy-six.

Beloved husband and best friend of Judi Peters. Loving father and father-in-law of Mark and Caren, Adam and Stephanie, Stefanie and Gavin. Proud and adoring grandfather of Shaun, Ashton, and Melissa; Noah, Carli, Eliot, and Lilah. Cherished son of the late Sadie and the late Meyer Levine, and son-in-law of the late Eva and the late Lazar Peters. Brother of the late Joel Levine and uncle of Terry, Trevor, and Darryl Levine. Devoted brother-in-law of April and the late Michael Rosenfeld, Michael Peters, and Roxanne Levine. Special uncle of Allison Grover, Eric and Julia Grover, Joshua and Heidi Peters, Adam and Esther Peters.

Barry was born and grew up in Montreal where he raised his family. He loved baseball, tennis and traveling with his beloved Judi. He played an integral role in his children’s lives and that of their children. A salesman by profession, Barry had a way with people that was unmatched and a smile that could light up any room he walked into. He is beloved by so many and the legacy that Barry leaves is one of love, devotion and unselfish friendship to so many. His humor was unique, and he always found a way to put a smile on everyone’s face at any given time. His generous spirit is defined by true optimism, love, joy, and playfulness as well as hope!

We will honor his memory by emulating how he lived his life with resiliency and hard work. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. A private funeral service by will take place. Shiva strictly private. The family thanks you for respecting their wishes. Contributions in Barry’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Quebec, (514) 871-1551.

Barry sent the following bio and photos around February 2009 and was kind enough to occasionally send material of interest to the class, which we included on this website:

Out of HIGH SCHOOL…. I joined radio station CKGM for 2 years and then became station manager-operation management at CFMB. I built and opened a station for them in Winnipeg.

In 1968 I married Judith Peters. In the same year I also joined my dad (who was in ill health at the time) in his men’s clothing store. After he passed away, I expanded the stores to a 4 store chain.

In 1987 I sold or closed the stores and joined the Algo group of women’s manufacturing, where I remained for 19 years as their Montreal salesman and Canadian sales manager. I went back into radio in 2006, but found it too corporate. I began working in residential and income property real estate for SUTTON Westmount in June 2008.

I have three children and 7 grandchildren and to my amazement they are all living in Montreal. The teacher who stands out in my mind was Laura Buchan. I don’t think she could have been older than 21 when she began at Mount Royal. I loved playing trumpet in the late Doc Jones band and probably my greatest moment was marching in the Mount Royal band to the cenotaph on November 11th and playing.
