FAQ

Susan Palmer

Sorry it has taken me so long to get my act together and write. My computer is a disaster. It won't even let me in to the class website so will have to try an internet cafe. I have a radio phone and also am not very computer literate except when it comes to do with things for work.

The reason I am not in the graduating year book is that in grade 10 Mr Drysdale politely asked my mother to find me another school as I had been suspended for skipping school and those of you in the band and glee club may remember my boyfriend throwing eggs at the bus when you were on route to Burlington. This was because Doc Jones would not let me in to the glee club as my voice was so bad. I haven't got a musical bone in my body, but was very jealous as I spent all my summer holidays in Vermont and wanted to go. It all started when Terry Mehmel threw a tomato at me as he was my ex boyfriend.

I did suffer as was sent to Trafalgar School for Girls for my last year. I then went to school in Neuchatel, Switzerland for a year, spending my holidays in England, with which I fell in love.

I came home, worked for the Royal Bank for a year, then went back to London for 3 weeks holiday and stayed for 3 years as I got a job with Air Canada at Heathrow. I cannot begin to describe London in the 60's. Fantastic years, sitting at the same table as the Rolling Stones in the airport, my friend Sandy and I hiding the Beatles when they were flying out to Delhi, and Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor coming through.  I was very lucky. I also had 2 boyfriends, one of whom had me twice to dinner on the Royal Britannia but was two timing me with Princess Anne, and the other whose Mother was best friends with the Queen's butler and got me into Windsor Castle for tea and also into the Royal Enclosure at Ascot.

I then came to Mallorca on holiday and had a holiday romance, who I made the mistake of marrying. We were here for 6 years and then went back to Canada and met up again and were very good friends with Karen (Morris) Lajeunesse and her husband Germaine. We got divorced after 2 children, and he moved back to Spain. I went out for 4 years with an ex boyfriend, Bob Macdonald, and then I met the love of my life, Graham. Some may remember him dancing with Janet at the reunion, 6 ft 5, and a handlebar moustache. Judy Dixon asked me who the hunk was. We split up and I came back to Spain working on the mainland. Then he followed me and we went to England and got married. After 6 years there he was fed up with the climate. He was working in Saudi but home every 3 months for 4 weeks. We had a sailboat which we had shipped from Canada to the UK but every time he came home, the tide was wrong or the weather, so we decided to move to Spain. I did tell him that I would only come to Mallorca as I still had a lot of friends from my years in the 60's. We came over and bought a finca or farm. Unfortunately Graham died 2 years later.

I still live here in Mallorca. My son has his own house on the farm but wants to live in Thailand. I have 3 and 1/2 acres of weeds which is too much so am trying to fix it up to sell.

I work as a tour guide for Thomson Holidays or Tui, as they own us, love my job and have 3 dogs that keep me company. I actually live in paradise as Mallorca has been written up as the 3rd most desirable place to live in the world. Michael Douglas, Jack Nicholson, and Andrew Lloyd Webber all have houses here, not to mention the British stars.

Do I miss Canada? Yes. My family is now all in Ontario so going home is not going home, as Montreal definitely is and was home. Should my children decide to go back I would but my daughter Christina is in London and Mike for the moment is here.

Interestingly enough is that the monk who founded all the missions in California was from a little town in the middle of the island called Petra. I just find it fascinating that this little man from this little village on this little island could do so much.

Anyway I am sure you are bored by now. This is my life on a platter. I will go to find somewhere with broadband and try to read about everyone.

If anyone ever comes to Mallorca, my phone numbers are 011 34971184141 or 00 34678467499.  My address is a post box:  apartado 86, Sa Pobla Mallorca 07420.

Love

Sue
